Interview With Professor Eric Gawiser

It’s been said that if you do what you love you never work a day in your life. That quote cannot be truer for Professor Eric Gawiser. Throughout my interview with Professor Gawiser I couldn’t help but get a sense of a person who really loves their job and are happy to come into work everyday.

My first and most obvious question to the professor was “How did you know that you wanted to study Cosmology and Physics?” His answer really did change my perspective on choosing a major.

When Professor Gawiser was in school, all throughout elementary and into high school he had no idea what he wanted to do with his life. But he always had an interest in the universe and its workings. This interest of his really kicked off when he was in his junior year of high school. Being given the assignment of writing a research paper on his own choosing, he chose to do it on the one thing that he knew the best, space. He named his research paper, “The Fate of the Universe” and it was so well done he received and A on it.

He then went on to get his Ph. D. in Physics and Cosmology because he realized early on that he had an interest in the subject and he could see himself doing that career and be happy with it. The one piece of advice that he gave me that really got to me was “to make your own luck wherever you go.” I feel this quote speaks volumes to me because it says don’t rely on others; make your own way through life. Set yourself up so that luck follows you wherever you go.

Professor Eric Gawiser was a blast to interview and I really do appreciate the time he took out of his busy schedule to do it. More information on Professor Eric Gawiser can be found on his Curriculum Vitae here, or his other information page here.
